INTELLIGENT FIBRES

The fabrics we use in the WORK-IT range started life in sportswear and outdoor pursuits. These modern synthetic yarns offer enhanced performance, which we tailor to the demands made on each individual garment

• Permanent wicking fibres are specially shaped to allow sweat and moisture vapour to travel along them, so evaporation is quick and the wearer feels more comfortable
• Activated carbon contributes an anti-bacterial effect to keep the garment fresh
• Minimal or no ironing is needed
• Tough nylon yarns in WORK-IT trousers are hard wearing but light in weight
• Water and stain repellent finishes

All our garments work together in a LAYERED SYSTEM in which all the elements breathe, to keep the wearer comfortable and protected. WORK-IT clothes do not contain cotton, which clings to moisture, resulting in chilling and loss of comfort.

THE FUTURE OF FABRICS

Of the total energy consumed by a garment during its life cycle around 20% is accounted for in its manufacture and 80% in its aftercare –  washing and drying. Fabrics made from synthetic yarns such as polyester and nylon absorb significantly less water than fabrics containing cotton, so it takes less water to wash them. 90% of the energy used in washing clothes is in heating the water, so heating less water and quicker drying times means a cost saving to you and to the environment. No fabric used in a WORK-IT garment contains any cotton so the cost of washing and drying our garments is significantly reduced. The WORK-IT base layer tee in 100% polyester with activated carbon, dries approximately twice as quickly as an equivalent cotton garment.

Design

LAYERED CLOTHING SYSTEM
The emphasis we place on functional fabrics doesn’t mean we compromise on design. Looking good and feeling comfortable in your work wear is equally important. To get the best from every garment we believe it should be well-designed and capable of working with other garments as part of a layered system of clothing.

The basis of the layered system is a wicking layer next to the skin, like the WORK-IT Basalt SS Tee Shirt, which works hard for you with permanent wicking, anti-odour and anti-uv. The top layer, depending on weather conditions, is there to keep the wind, or the sun, or the rain off – the Scafell Softshell is ideal with a 3-layer fabric shell. In between, you can add more layers for warmth, like the Helvellyn Hoodie , or conversely take them off to cool down. Each garment has a part to play in the system, allowing moisture vapour to escape and your body to breathe.
